Answers to the questions families ask us most.
We know that when you reach out to us, you often have more questions than you know where to start. That is completely normal. Below are the questions we hear most often — answered honestly, in plain language, with no pressure and no jargon.
What exactly does Lumiere Care Advisors do?
We are a senior placement advisory service. That means we help families navigate the process of finding the right care setting for an aging loved one — whether that is assisted living, memory care, a board and care home, skilled nursing, or another option entirely. We do much more than hand you a list. We start by listening — learning about your loved one’s care needs, personality, preferences, and budget. We then research and curate a shortlist of communities we genuinely believe are a good fit. We accompany you on tours, help you ask the right questions, assist with the logistics of the move, and are there with you on move-in day. After your loved one is settled, we follow up to make sure the transition is going well.
How much does it cost to work with you?
Our services are completely free to families. There are no consultation fees, no hourly charges, and no hidden costs. We are compensated by the senior living community after your loved one moves in — paid from their operations budget, not from your monthly rent. Your rent does not increase because of our involvement. This is a long-standing, regulated model in California, and we are fully transparent about how it works. We welcome any questions you have about our compensation structure.
Does your fee structure create a conflict of interest?
It is a fair question, and we respect you for asking it. The honest answer is that our long-term success depends entirely on making good placements. If we recommended communities that were not a good fit, families would know — and our reputation in the Bay Area community, among families and healthcare professionals alike, would suffer.
How do I know you are recommending the right communities?
We work with a wide network of communities across all price points and care levels. We are not tied to any specific facility or ownership group, and we do not push families toward any particular community. Our recommendation is always driven by what we believe is the right fit for your loved one — full stop.
What makes Lumiere different from other senior placement services?
Romelia and Carina together bring more than 60 years of combined healthcare experience — including clinical nursing, healthcare executive leadership, and direct work with seniors across private duty, home health, hospice, and post-acute care. They have also navigated this journey personally as family members caring for their own parents. That combination of professional expertise and lived experience is rare. It means we understand the medical side, the emotional side, and the logistical side of what your family is going through — and we use all of it to serve you.
What areas do you serve?
We are deeply rooted in the Bay Area and primarily serve families throughout the greater Bay Area and surrounding counties. Please reach out to us directly to discuss your specific location and we will let you know how we can help.
